Well - I am going to dive right in.....
Why on Earth are convicted or admitted murderers wearing Kevlar in transport? Do I care if they get shot and killed on their way to their new, posh living quarters while millions of Americans (and other members of this world) suffer on the streets, are unable to pay their bills, and their children starve? NO!
Am I being too insensitive here? I mean, how many rapists, murderers, drug dealers and child predators do we need to keep trying to rehabilitate and provide a warm (albeit not cozy) bed, three square meals, TVs, recreational time and the potential to get a college education? Seriously - and don't throw the book at them unless it is covered in poison dipped spikes and guaranteed to cause a slow and painful death! Now you know how I really feel and I see my political career washed away....;)
Of course this is very blunt, but I am so tired of hearing about some sexual predator being released and not being properly monitored and he (usually a man but I am not ignorant of the fact that woman can be just as sexually deviant) goes out and does the same thing again. That enrages me beyond expression.
So let me also note that I am aware of the power of forgiveness. I have forgiven the person who wronged me and that hasn't come easy and I am not sure if there is some dichotomy here in all this, but I propose that if our penal system were more like some of the other harsher ones in the world (I am thinking Hammurabi's Code glistening Middle Eastern nations) that maybe criminals would think twice before acting...maybe not if they are genetically predisposed or environmentally programmed to be axe murderers and rapists (what a cowardly way to not take responsibility for you actions), but that is a whole other topic that I may get to someday.
Where it stands right now, this is my opinion. I have known people in prison, people who have been innocent and acquitted of serious crimes, and have been a victim of a crime myself...I have never been the parent of a criminal offender and I pray I never will be. Time and experience alters views. Right now, this is mine.
On a lighter and more amusing note, my bikini wax is done and all I can say is OH MY GOODNESS! I am not sure I am woman enough to have it done again, but I am trying to stay open to the idea. So far I am pleased with the outcome, so we'll see how long it lasts and whether or not I can sum up the courage to do it again!

I LOVE your blog so far, you have made me say "Mmm Hmm isn't that the truth", smile and laugh out loud all in a few minutes, thank you! Keep em coming!
ReplyDeletePs: I find it funny that we both picked the same background too!! Love me some PINK!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenn for reading and taking the time to comment - I appriciate that you find humor in my post as it was certainly meant to be there. I am sure not all will agree with some of what I have to say, and I profoundly respect that as an American, and love that we get to voice our opinions freely and openly with only a slight chance of retaliation from those who don't respect that right.
ReplyDeleteThanks again!
Denise,you are insightful,truthful, and quirky.I love it!
ReplyDeleteDenise, would you really want a political career anyway. It probably be much easier to be the person behind the scenes. Loved hearing your thoughts re: criminals, etc and I do agree with you. At what point do we say enough is enough? How many times are we going to excuse their behavior.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the blogs, they are interesting and interesting is good.
Thanks for your thoughts and comments Holly and Chris - I totally agree with you, Chris - how many chances do we give repeated offenders? I will have to find some stats, but I would imagine that a majority (even just more than 50% would suffice) of certain types of offenders repeat their crime or advance in their criminal activity. And we as the American public pay for their crimes in more ways than one.
ReplyDeleteI will set up a new blog soon - just got back late last night from vacation so I will try to come up with something witty for you.
Thanks again and I appriciate all the comments.
